Festival

Dragon Boat Israel’s Third International Festival was at the end of May, 2015. Of course, the most important element of dragon boat festivals is the races. We raced a 300 m course on the shores southern tip of the Sea of Galilee (Lake Kinneret) at Yarden Kinneret, right near the mouth of the Jordan river. With 40 teams and six boats, the first day of the festival is a practice/training day and the second day is all about the competition. For specific race results for 2015, go to our Teams page.

At this new location, our race course ran parallel to the lake shore, allowing spectators a great vantage point from which to watch all the excitement and cheer on a favourite team.

15-16Dragon boat festivals involve more than just racing, however. There are food vendors, a marketplace and a variety of activities to entertain everyone. And for paddlers, there’s a team village, where they can rest, relax and socialize between their races.

Something unique to DBI is our Gala Festival dinner on Thursday evening to welcome our international paddlers, many of whom have never been to Israel before, to the beautiful Galilee. The dinner takes place at Hamat Gader, a gorgeous spa built on top of hot springs in the mountains, next to the ruins of a Roman spa in the same spot. Paddlers can arrive early to take a relaxing soak in the pools before enjoying an evening of Israeli food, hospitality and entertainment.
